WHAT TO DO IF YOU HAVE A
COMPLAINT ABOUT AN POLICE OFFICER

We at the Freehold
Police Department are conscious of our responsibility to
our residents. All police officers are trained to be
fair, impartial and non-discriminatory in dealing with
our residents. If you have a complaint about a police
officer, we wish to know about your complaint so we can
investigate your allegation.

If you feel you have a
complaint you should:
1. Contact the
police department at 732-462-1234
2. Speak with the
shift supervisor who will take your complaint
3. You may lodge
your complaint either in person, via telephone, by mail
or fax.
4. Please advise
if you need an interpreter or other assistance to file
your complaint.
5. You may lodge
your complaint anonymously.
6. You must
describe the type of complaint and the actions of the
officer that caused this complaint.
7. When dealing
with an officer he is required to give his name and
badge number.
8. If you do not
have the officer’s name you should know the location of
the problem and the approximate time and date to assist
us in identifying the officer.
9. All complaints
filed are investigated by the Internal Affairs Division
of the Freehold Police department. The investigator will
contact you during the course of the investigation.
10. After the
completion of this investigation you will be notified in
writing of the outcome of the investigation and, if
appropriate, offered an opportunity to disclose further
information.
11. If you do not
wish to file a complaint with this department you may
file your complaint with Monmouth County Prosecutor’s
Office Internal Affairs Section 732-431-7000
12. All
complaints are kept confidential and the complainant’s
name(s) are not released to the public.
13. Any pertinent
records not considered confidential are subject to
disclosure under the Open Public Records Act and may be
released in accordance with these criteria.

Nosotros en el
Departament de Policía en Freehold estamos consciente de
nuestra responsabilidad a todos nuestros residentes.

Si usted tiene una queja acerca de un oficial de policía,
nosotros deseamos saber de su queja para que podamos

Si usted tiene una
queja usted debe:
1. Llamar al
departamento de policía al 732-462-1234
2. Hable con el
supervisor que tomará su queja.
3. Usted puede
someter su queja en persona, via teléfono, por el correo
o por medio de un fax.
4. Por favor de
avisarnos si usted necesita a un intérprete u otra ayuda
para archivar su queja.
5. Usted puede
someter su queja anónimamente.
6. Usted debe
describir el tipo de queja y acciones del oficial que
causó esta queja.
7. Cuando se
trata con un oficial, el/ella tiene que dar su nombre y
numero de insignia.
8. Si usted no
tienes el nombre del oficial, debes saber el lugar de
los hechos y aproximadamente la hora y fecha para poder
identificar quien fue el oficial.
9. Todo tipo de
queja son investigadas por la División Interna de
Asuntos del departamento de Policía de la Municipalidad
de Freehold. El investigador se comunicara con usted
durante la investigación.
10. Al terminar
la investigación, una carta sera enviada por correo con
el resultado de la investigación, y si es necesario, se
le dara una oportunidad de revelar información adicional.
11. Si usted no
desea reportar su queja con este departamento usted
puede reportar su queja con la Oficina del Acusados del
Condado de Monmouth 732-431-7000 Sección de Asuntos
Internos.
12. Todo tipo de
queja sera mantenida en confidencia.
13. De aquerdo al
“Open Public Records Act” cualquier registro pertinente
no considerado confidencial son susceptible a la
revelación y puede ser liberado de acuerdo con estos
criterios.
